Why North Bay Rugby Club?

Based in the San Francisco North Bay, the North Bay Rugby Club is an open club allowing players from any school to join, learn and compete on the field. The club welcomes players from 8-18 years old, fielding 5 teams: U10, U12, U14, Frosh/Soph and Varsity.

North Bay Rugby was formed to promote the ideals of strong character, sportsmanship, leadership, good citizenship, fair play, camaraderie and giving back to the community of which we are all a part. The club will represent rugby in a positive and professional manner throughout Northern California and to the national youth rugby community.

Happy Campers!

As always, an extremely valuable rugby experience.

Alumni Spotlight 5 Questions with:

Louis Le Merle, University of California

Position: Flanker/No. 8
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 215
Year: Sophomore
Hometown: Tiburon, CA
High School: Marin Catholic High School

1) Please tell us your Name, HS attended, Current College or Club, rugby position and year you played for Coach Dave?

LL: My name is Louis Le Merle and I am currently a sophomore playing rugby at the University of Berkeley where I play eightman as well as flanker. I played 4 years for Dave on the varsity rugby squad.

2) What is your favorite rugby memory?

LL: My favorite rugby memory was beating United in our final game of the National championship my junior year. While we weren't playing in the championship game, it was clear that our team and the United squad we faced were clearly the best two teams in the tournament and beating them in the brutal battle we experienced was nothing less than noteworthy and utterly memorable.

3) What is the best piece of advice you have received in your career?

LL: The best piece of advice I have ever received in my career is that in the game of rugby you can't get caught in the moment. While the game must be played set piece by set piece, it is important not to get hung up on failures and successes as they occur. It is crucial to constantly be focused on the next most important task, whatever that is, and having the mental toughness to not let yourself be distracted in the heat of battle.

4) What is one thing that most people do not know about you?

LL: One thing that most people do not know about me is that I have a deep passion and love for music and play piano and guitar just about every day. I try to mix my athletic efforts on the field with those playing my instruments because I feel it is the best way to become a well rounded individual.

5) What advice would you give to the younger players of North Bay Wildcats?

LL: To the young prospects of North Bay Rugby I would say continue playing the game for the passion you had when you first started playing. At the end of the day, we play this game not for trophies nor championships but because of the feeling we get when we lace up our cleats and put in our mouth pieces. It is the excitement we get prior to games that should dictate the way we play and the effort with which we compete. If we lose that aspect of the game, championships and victories are nothing but titles to be scribbled on certificates that will eventually be lost and forgotten. It is the memories we create that will engrave themselves in our minds and stay with us as long as we live.

North Bay Varsity finshes 3rd nationally in inaugural season!

North Bay finish National Championships on a high

Wildcats beat Westerville Worms 32-25 in overtime to finish 3rd

A very exciting match between North Bay and Westerville resulted in a win for the Wildcats. After being 15-0 down the Wildcats fought back hard to end regular time with a 25-25 score line. The game then went into extra time (5 minutes each way). A slicing run and try by Tom Brusati with a conversion by Charlie Baylor resulted in a huge win for the boys, the club and rugby in Marin.

As a result, the Wildcats finished their inaugural season ranked number three in the US National Championships Tournament Combo (Club/High a School ) division.

Well done lads!
